That's the best part about digital photography... unlimited photos, but zero film developing costs!
Introduction
In the era of digital photography, it seems like everyone and their grandma are self-proclaimed photography enthusiasts… and I’m no different. Although in my defense, I really was into photography long before the digital age, I swear!
Want proof? Well for one thing, I had my very own black and white photography darkroom at my parents’ house when I was younger. Throughout my high school years, I would spend hours at a time cooped up in my little basement dark room, inhaling a party mix of chemicals that came from the combo use of Kodak D-76 Developers, Ilford Multigrade Developers, Ilford & Kodak Rapid Fixers, Ilford & Kodak Indicator Stop Baths, Kodak Photo-Flo 200 Wetting Agents… and lots more.
And while I’ve made the smooth transition between university and working at my current job (without letting a day pass by in the middle!), I must admit that most definitely wasn’t the initial plan. When I was nearing graduation during my final year in university, I really had no idea what I wanted to do in life. And let’s face it, having an Art History degree? Doesn’t exactly scream “hire me!”
What am I trying to get at? Well, not many people know this about me, but I actually applied for a college diploma to become a professional photographer during that period of uncertainty. In fact, I pretty much went through the entire procedure… including building my own black and white photography portfolio, undergoing the interview process, and at the end, successfully receiving an invitation to join the “super elite” (seriously, I’m not exaggerating here… they really do admit only like 45 people a year!) college photography course.

Fortunately for me, I DO have other hobbies... way too many, in fact!
However, during the very last week before registration fees were due, I received a call from my current employer letting me know that I was hired. And my decision that day (which happened to be the same day as my convocation, I might add!) to drop the photography-as-a-career route and opt for my current life path instead… let’s just say moments like that are life-changing and don’t come often. But I most definitely have not regretted that decision!
And although I’m not a professional photographer by day, I do like to consider myself as one “by night,” if you know what I mean. Photography will always be a passion of mine. Of course, I’m not going to claim to be the best photographer in the world… far from it. I know that I’m not professionally trained. I know that my lack of super-expensive camera equipment makes it hard to compete with the professionals. I know that for me, photography will always just be a hobby. And I’m fine with that!
Hopefully, you’ll enjoy reading my blog posts on the photographic adventures I’ll be going through in life… as I try out new camera models and brands, play around with different camera lenses, experiment with using different camera filters, and lots more.
